"Labels" - Ceramic sculpture and cut glass mosaic
Words.

They can crack spirits and tangle up inside like twisted, rusty wire. They can lift up with hope and promise only to later shatter like hundreds of pieces of broken glass. We lie on top or under or among the pieces and become the pieces.

Words are attached to our skin like labels on packages. The only meaning they have is what the speaker gives to them and the hearer believes them to mean. Shipping labels providing direction to the reader are affixed to packages and what greater package is there than the skin that protects from the dangers outside of bodies?

She is here to show you what words can do in a collection of symbolic representations. Every angle was considered. Every material used was gathered with deliberate intention. The colors – the warm and the cold, the red and white and blue - were chosen with great care. When you speak, consider carefully your words. Someone is listening. Always listening.
